Wheelchair Ramps

WheelchairRamps_2013_team-building-ramps

Abstract

The Wheelchair Ramps team was formed in 2015 after realizing the need for easy and affordable wheel chair ramps in the Charlottesville area. The Wheelchair Ramps project is primarily focused on finding potential clients who could use a wheelchair ramp, surveying their area for potential obstacles, and installing the wheelchair ramp at the client's location. After partnering with the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program (AHIP), the team constructed their first ramp in 2016.

Accomplishments

The Wheelchair Ramp team successfully built their first ramp in 2016. The team was also awarded the Lacey Micro Grant. The project continued to look for new ways to develop wheel chair ramps while working with AHIP, including designing their own ramps using CAD and using different materials like synthetic wood or metal. Ultimately the project concluded when AHIP withdrew their partnership and the work for the project team fizzled out.
