Community Gardens

Abstract

The community gardens project aimed at developing sustainable garden beds near the O-Hill Dining Hall for students, CIO's, and other community members to use for growing various vegetables, herbs, and plants. The team also created a scheduling system for use of the gardens, as well as a community outreach program. They were awarded several grants for their project and were successful in designing to account for Charlottesville climate conditions to allow for year round usage.

Our mission is to inspire students to be proactive and contextually-aware Engineers who empower communities to attain their basic human needs in a sustainable manner.
